Transitional and Sober Living
A structured step between residential treatment and independent living, right here on the ranch, plus personal help finding a trusted sober living home when you are ready.
Continued Support After Treatment
Recovery takes more than 30 days, so treatment at Windmill Wellness Ranch does not stop there. After residential treatment, nearly every client continues into Clean Living, our transitional living program right here on the ranch, where they keep building their recovery with the same team and community around them.
For clients ready for more independence after their stay, we also partner with many sober living homes. These homes are completely separate from Windmill, and every one we refer to is vetted by our staff first.
The Next Step in Recovery
Unlike a standard 30-day program, Windmill treats Clean Living as a natural part of the recovery path. Clients move from residential treatment into Clean Living to practice everyday life with structure and support still close by.
That continuity matters for everyone. It is especially valuable for people who have been through treatment before, those working through layered trauma that calls for ongoing therapy, and anyone who wants to keep the therapeutic relationships they have built during continuing care.
Understanding the Journey
The journey to recovery extends beyond staying sober. It involves learning how to live a full, meaningful life without dependence on substances.
Research, including studies by Nora Volkow of NIDA and researchers at Yale University, highlights the critical 90-day period required for the brain to reset and regain decision-making capabilities. Our program acknowledges this, preparing clients for potential relapses and providing them with the necessary support and tools, including access to their recovery coach, to navigate the complexities of life post-treatment. We understand each person has their own unique needs in living requirements, and these are just a few of them.
How Clean Living Works
A Plan Built with You and Your Family
Aftercare decisions bring together clients, clinicians, the treatment team, and families, so every plan is personal. Families and friends can also join weekly workshops focused on aftercare planning.
Structured Living for Long-Term Recovery
Clean Living offers more structure than sober living. Residents continue their medical care and therapy and take part in community and accountability measures that help new habits take root, all on the ranch.
Beyond Recovery: Academic and Career Support
Residents receive academic and career support, including career aptitude tests, resume building, and job placement through partnerships with local businesses and educational institutions.
A Bridge to Independent Living
Clean Living bridges the gap between intensive residential treatment and independent living. When a client is ready, their recovery coach can help arrange a move into one of our partner sober living homes, which operate separately from Windmill.
Individualized Care, Long-Term Recovery
Whether a client's next step is Clean Living on the ranch, a partner sober living home, or returning home with continued support, we believe in individualized care and in every client's potential for long-term recovery and a fulfilling life in sobriety.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Clean Living and sober living?+
Clean Living is Windmill's own transitional living program, located on the ranch. It is more structured: residents continue medical care and therapy and take part in community and accountability measures. Sober living homes are run separately by our partners and offer more independence in a substance-free setting.
Do most clients move into Clean Living after residential treatment?+
Yes. Nearly every client continues into Clean Living, our transitional living program on the ranch, after residential treatment. It is part of what sets Windmill apart from standard 30-day programs: clients get more time to practice everyday life with their care team and community still close by.
Why does the 90-day period matter?+
Research, including studies by Nora Volkow of NIDA and researchers at Yale University, highlights that the brain needs about 90 days to reset and restore decision-making. Clean Living gives clients that time with support close by.
Are the sober living homes you refer to checked first?+
Yes. Our partner sober living homes are completely separate from Windmill, and every home we refer clients to is vetted by our staff first. When sober living is part of a client's plan, their recovery coach helps set it up after they complete their stay at Windmill.
Can my family be involved in aftercare planning?+
Yes. Families take part in aftercare decisions alongside clients and the treatment team, and families and friends can join weekly workshops focused on aftercare planning.
Is there help with work or school?+
Yes. Clean Living residents receive academic and career support, including career aptitude tests, resume building, and job placement through partnerships with local businesses and educational institutions.
